Question by Fish: Help Me! I entered “userpasswords2″ and can’t log back in! What is the password?
A friend told me about the command prompt in school. I went home, logged on to my computer, went to the command prompt, and typed in “userpasswords2″ in the box like he showed me. It did not do anything, so I tried it a couple more times. I logged off, and when I tried to log back in the next day, it said “Did you forget your password” (By the way, this is Windows I am dealing with.) I do not know how to log back in, and I cannot get in any other way. My account was an Administrator account, and so is a second, backup account I have, except I forgot the password for that. There is no way to get back in and change the password back. So what I need to know is the password that the command “userpasswords2″ sets it to. Please answer, because I have important files on there.
Thanks, all of you! Actually, as I was desperately trying out various other passwords and one of them was “admin”. That got me in. Thanks to you guys anyway!

Question by Raintrain: Hey I am trying to resurrect an older Dell PC circa 2000 with Windows XP Professional on it?
At any rate Windows update started some nagging on my start-up & log on screen saying that I may have a pirated version. I have moved a few times since then & cannot find the original discs. I only use this laptop as a backup to get on line to check email and other small tasks. I do not want to send Microsoft additional money to quit nagging me.
How do I get rid of the nagging genuine validation annoynaces?

Stop the insanity! Make it go away.

Thanks.
In 2002 I had an independent computer techie ” fix it” because it was running slowly. Perhaps he placed a pirated XP- I do not know.

Well, is it a pirated version? If it is, you’re better off disabling automatic updates. Now. If your trying to use an operating system that has already been registered to another PC, you’ll probably be getting the same messages. No nagging? Get a legal version.

Query by Tim D: Are there any excellent free of charge backup utilities which let you conserve your backup to a network drive?
The Windows 7 House Premium version will not let you save your backup to a network drive. You have to upgrade to the Expert version to do that. Are there any free of charge backup utilities which could do this? Or will I have to obtain a thing like Norton Ghost to do this?

Try mapping the network drive to a drive letter initial.

There is a program called ‘Norton Ghost’ that creates an exact image of your HDD for replication. I think the program is licensed but you can try www.downloads.com’ for a free version. As far as intalling windows is concerned, as far as I remember it asks you if you want a typical or custom install and you can choose custom to customize it at the time of installation.
