Computer Battery Backup
There really is no way to get really great stability without some sort of computer battery backup. Computer battery backup offers us the ability to keep our computers running regardless of what the local electricity supplier is up too.
Unfortunately, they have no control to what your neighbor may decide to do. Please let me explain. If your next door neighbor decides to start up a very high demand electrical device, it can cause a condition called a ‘brown out’. A brown out is much like a black out (complete loss of electrical service), but you don’t completely loose electrical power. You basically loose some of the full electrical service.
Many devices in our houses or offices can run just fine in this condition, but not your computer! With the price of computers going down more every day, quality is being sacrificed. It was discovered a long time ago, that the price of the power supply in your computer, which converts the wall electrical power into something the computer can use, can be severely reduced in price by using what is called a switching power supply. This type of power supply is great, except, in a brown out condition. It just doesn’t have the extra ability to cover a brown out, or reduction in incoming electrical power.
In comes computer battery backup. What basically occurs, is a device sits between the computer and the electrical feed to the computer. This device is called a Uninterruptible Power Source or UPS for short. It normally conditions the incoming electrical power by removing noise and power surges. Next it will keep a built in battery charged at all times to suppliment the incoming electrical fee if it drops below a threshold value.
Computer battery backup is really a great idea and doesn’t cost very much at all to price and install. I recommend this to all of my customers and many have seen great benefits such as:
- Overall improved computer stability - the computer doesn’t do a lot of really weird things anymore.
- If power is completely lost, you don’t loose the work you are currently editing or creating. The computer battery backup can generally keep your computer running for between 5 to 30 minutes if you completely loose electrical service.
- Computer battery backup will generally protect the workings inside the computer from electrical noise generated by electrical storms. This is not 100% fool-proof, but close enough without spending tons of money.
So, no matter how you look at it, computer battery backup is something you really need to look into. Laptop owners already get a lot of the benefits just because it has a built-in computer battery backup to give your laptop it’s portability. Always remember that this is not a subsitute for a good computer backup strategy. You need to make sure you cover this base too.
